During these introductory sessions we will get to know each other and build our Sustainable Leadership community. We will discuss the current state of our organizations and set goals together. We will also review the course requirements and how to fulfill the Actively Green certification.
We will dedicate both sessions this month to exploring waste management and clearing up recycling misconceptions in our area. Each business will use this information to create individualized policies and SOPs. This month will include a field trip to our local material recovery facility, landfill, and household hazardous waste facilities as well as the Honey Wagon compost facility.
Session 1: Water
We will explore indoor and outdoor water conservation to save money and natural resources. Each business will develop a water reduction plan to track water usage and reduce water consumption through irrigation assessments, green landscaping, and water fixture replacement.
Session 2: Energy
We will explore how energy management can reduce costs and improve efficiency. Your business will receive personalized energy coaching and learn how to track emissions to support future growth.
Session 1: Transportation
We will explore why transportation is one of the most important sectors for both employee satisfaction and environmental sustainability. During this session we will explore flexible work plans, smart commuting incentives, and fleet electrification options.
Session 2: Chemical Management & Responsible
We will discuss how to take control of what enters our businesses and what we are exposed to. This involves taking inventory of all of the chemicals used in the workplace and focusing on being intentional with purchasing options.
Session 1: Give Back and Buy Local
We have a responsibility to support our community through giving back campaigns and buying local when we are able. This session will focus on finding ways for businesses to contribute to our community.
Session 2: Customer Communications
Each business will develop a communication plan to inform customers and guests about the sustainable actions being taken and how they can contribute to positive change.
At this point in the program, you will be ready to reflect on your achievements, set goals for the future, and celebrate your success! You will have completed the required criteria, mastered data monitoring, and you will have a robust Sustainability Handbook to put to work at your business. You will be eligible to be audited and receive Actively Green certification for your business. The representative who has attended the courses will receive a Certificate of Completion for their work in the Sustainable Business Leadership Program 2025!
