Haley Whitley

Naturalist

Haley (she/her) was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, which is ironically where she discovered her love of the outdoors. Craving more natural spaces, she moved to Boone where she has spent the past four years. She attended the Honors College at Appalachian State University, earning a B.S. in sustainable development and a minor in communication. Haley is ecstatic to be joining the Walking Mountains team as a naturalist intern and can’t wait to help others connect to the natural world while expanding her knowledge. She has previously spent time teaching at the forest school High Country Forest Wild, assisting the Watauga Riverkeeper as an intern, and working as an undergraduate research assistant for Appalachian State. Outside of work and school, she can be found at live music events, hiking, swimming in rivers, snowboarding, drawing, cooking, and baking.
