Cassy Jo Brown
Cassy Jo’s love for nature was nurtured at an early age. Exploring tide pools at the Oregon Coast, picking huckleberries in Northern Idaho, and trying to catch snakes and insects in her hometown of Nine Mile Falls, Washington are memories from her adventurous upbringing. Hoping to provide others with similar nature-based opportunities, she got her B.A. in Outdoor Recreation and Eco-psychology from Western Washington University.
Cassy Jo loves helping people understand that everything is interconnected, and she believes that nature is the best teacher! She has a wide range of experience leading youth outdoors. Before moving to Colorado, she founded a gender-inclusive skateboarding collective, led multi-adventure backcountry trips, instructed snow science programs, taught in an interdisciplinary art school, and created and taught “Art, Animals, and Gardens” summer camps at an animal sanctuary. Cassy Jo started at Walking Mountains in 2018, and has had a few different job titles prior to Summer Programs Manager. She primarily oversees our Summer Science Camps, which aim to get youth excited to be outside while engaging in science.
When she’s not at Walking Mountains, Cassy Jo is probably outside with her dogs (Sugar Magnolia and Riva), skateboarding, skiing, mountain biking, camping, or gardening. She also loves creating art, writing poetry, and grooving to live music.
