The Sustainable Film Series raises awareness and encourages community dialogue about environmental issues afflicting our world through award-winning independent featured films. This year Walking Mountains will continue to provide films at Riverwalk Theater in Edwards. A virtual option may also be available for those not able to attend in person. All films start at 6:30pm and are free and open to the public.

November 5 | The Scale of Hope
The Scale of Hope is a 2022 documentary film by Josh “Bones” Murphy that follows Molly Kawahata, a former Obama White House climate advisor, as she prepares for an expedition in Alaska’s Range while also dealing with mental illness and developing a new climate narrative. Kawahata’s struggles with mental health have given her a deeper understanding of how to use the power of the mind to create change, and she hopes to create a new climate narrative that centers on hope and systemic change in order to inspire more people to take action.

December 3 | Chasing Time
If a single photo can inspire change, how influential are a million images? Over the course of the 15-year Extreme Ice Survey project, photographer James Balog and his team brought
some of the world’s first and most compelling visual evidence of climate change to the global stage as he depicted the rapid melting of glaciers around the world. The documentary reunites James and the Emmy-award-winning team behind Chasing Ice to capture the end of the epic undertaking and spotlight the power of an intergenerational effort to seed hope and inspire action toward a sustainable future.

Can an underutilized way to graze cattle, that mimics the way bison once roamed the land, help get farmers out of debt, restore our depleted soils, rebuild wildlife habitat and draw down huge amounts of carbon?
